‘Glad’ to represent the region at the design awards
Glad Creative, a branding and design agency based in Gateshead, have had remarkable success at a series of prestigious design awards; success that is all the more noteworthy, given that the company was only established at the beginning of this year.
Glad, now based in The Shed, Gateshead, was established in February this year by David Burdon, a graduate of Northumbria University’s Graphic Design degree course who was last year named ‘The Fresh Face of Design’. After starting his career at a well-established design agency in Edinburgh, David made the move “back home” to the North-East with the aim of establishing a highly creative and successful consultancy in the region.
It seems that he is already well on his way to achieving this objective. The Fresh Awards were recently held at Old Trafford Cricket Ground in Manchester and celebrate excellence in design, advertising and media. Glad received a Gold Award for their poster designs for the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom. The Silver Award was given for their logo design for ‘Nottingham Jazz’, an accomplished jazz band for hire in the Nottingham area. Following on from this success, the company received three nominations at the Roses Design Awards, including a nomination for the title of ‘Design Agency of the Year’.
David says “We’re thrilled to have had a lot of success at the awards. The nomination for Design Agency of the Year was a particular highlight, as we haven’t yet been going for a year. This has really helped to put our agency in the spotlight.”
David and the team ultimately brought home three awards from the Roses, including the ‘Chairman’s Award for Design’. They are now looking forward to attending the Cream Awards this Thursday evening in Leeds, where they will find out if a further two nominations will become awards.
David says “Winning awards isn’t everything. Our primary concern is to deliver engaging and effective design work. If the work then goes on to receive recognition from the industry leaders who sit on these design panels, then that is an added bonus – a bonus that is good for business as it helps to inspire confidence in existing and prospective clients.”
Glad offer services in branding, print design, web design and advertising. Their clients include Tesco Home, V&A, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and the DA Partnership.
